What is virgin milk?

Published in Cosmetics History 1 min read

Virgin milk refers to a former cosmetic. According to available information, it was:

  • A cosmetic formulation.
  • Composed either of:
    • Tincture of benzoin, or some balsam, or
    • Lead subacetate precipitated by adding water.

This product, with the slightly misleading name of "virgin milk," was not related to actual milk from any animal, but rather a chemical or herbal cosmetic preparation.
