What is the king pair in cricket?

Published in Cricket Terminology 1 min read

A "king pair" in cricket occurs when a batsman is dismissed for a golden duck (out on the first ball faced) in both innings of a match.

Essentially, it's a particularly unfortunate dismissal in both opportunities to bat during a match. The term originates from the visual resemblance of two zeroes (representing the two dismissals for zero) to a pair of spectacles. Therefore, a "king pair" highlights the batter's ill fortune in registering ducks in both innings and on the very first ball faced each time.
