How do I add text in Cricut Design Space?

Published in Cricut Design Space Text 3 mins read

Adding text in Cricut Design Space is a simple process that allows you to incorporate words, phrases, or sentences into your designs for cutting, drawing, or foiling with your Cricut machine.

To add text, you primarily use the dedicated Text tool available within the design panel. Here are the steps based on the standard Design Space interface:

Steps to Add Text

  1. Click the Text tool: Located in the design panel to the left of the Canvas, the Text tool button is usually represented by a 'T' icon. Clicking this tool will create a text box on your Canvas and also open text editing options at the top of the screen.

  2. Enter your text: With the text box active on the Canvas, you can simply start typing. Enter text into the text box that appears. As you type, the text will appear within the box on your Canvas.

  3. Choose your font and font style: Once you've entered your text, you can customize its appearance. Choose your font and font style from the options available in the font menu at the top of the screen.

    • Font: Select from thousands of fonts available in Design Space, including Cricut fonts, system fonts installed on your computer, or fonts you've uploaded.
    • Font Style: Many fonts have associated styles such as regular, bold, italic, or bold italic. Select the desired style if available for your chosen font.
  4. Adjust spacing (Optional): You can fine-tune how your text looks. Use the Letter Space tool to adjust letter spacing as needed.

    • Letter Space: This tool allows you to increase or decrease the space between individual letters. This is particularly useful for script fonts to connect letters correctly or for improving readability with certain font styles.
    • Line Space: If you have multiple lines of text, you can also adjust the spacing between the lines using the Line Space tool.

After following these steps, your text will be ready to be resized, moved, rotated, or further edited using other tools in Design Space. You can always double-click on the text object on your Canvas to go back and edit the text itself or change its properties like font and spacing.
