How to Use Clips When Drying Curly Hair?

Published in Curly Hair Styling 2 mins read

Using clips when drying curly hair focuses on lifting the roots and encouraging volume, especially in areas prone to flatness. Here's how to do it:

  1. Clip Placement: While your hair is wet, gently clip sections where you want more lift. The key is to position the clips close to the roots. Small claw clips or specialized curl clips work well for this purpose.

  2. Sectioning: Repeat the clipping process for each section where you'd like to achieve added root lift. Focus on areas that typically fall flat, like the crown of your head.

  3. Drying: Allow your hair to dry completely, either air drying or using a diffuser on a low setting. Avoid touching or manipulating your hair too much during the drying process to minimize frizz.

  4. Removal: Once your hair is completely dry, carefully remove the clips. Gently ease them out to avoid disrupting the curl pattern.

  5. Finishing Touches: After removing the clips, "zhoosh" or fluff your roots with your fingers to enhance the volume and soften any harsh lines. You can also gently shake your hair at the roots.

By clipping the roots while drying, you encourage the hair to dry lifted, resulting in more volume and definition at the roots, a common challenge for many curly-haired individuals.
