To export a specific section of your timeline in DaVinci Resolve, you'll use the in and out points to define the range you want to render. Here's how:
Steps to Export a Specific Section:
-
Navigate to the Edit Page: Ensure you are on the Edit page of DaVinci Resolve, where your timeline is visible.
-
Set the In Point (Start): Move the playhead to the exact frame where you want the export to begin. Press the I key on your keyboard. This marks the "In" point.
-
Set the Out Point (End): Move the playhead to the exact frame where you want the export to end. Press the O key on your keyboard. This marks the "Out" point. Your timeline now displays a highlighted section between the in and out points. Only this portion will be exported.
-
Go to the Deliver Page: Click the "Deliver" tab at the bottom of the screen. This is where you configure your export settings.
-
Choose Export Settings: Select your desired export preset or customize individual settings such as resolution, frame rate, codec, and file format.
-
Add to Render Queue: Make sure your render settings are satisfactory. Click "Add to Render Queue." This adds the export job to the queue.
-
Start Render: Click "Start Render" (or "Render All") in the Render Queue to begin the export process. DaVinci Resolve will now export only the section of the timeline defined by your In and Out points.
Alternative Method: Exporting Individual Clips
While the above method is ideal for exporting any specific section (even sections spanning multiple clips), you can also export individual clips:
-
Select the Clip: On the Edit page, select the specific clip you wish to export.
-
Create a New Timeline (Optional but Recommended): Right-click the selected clip and choose "Create New Timeline Using Selected Clips". This will create a new timeline containing only the selected clip, avoiding accidentally exporting unrelated parts of your project. This is the cleanest and most reliable method.
-
Navigate to Deliver Page: Go to the Deliver page.
-
Choose Export Settings: Set your desired export settings.
-
Add to Render Queue: Click "Add to Render Queue".
-
Start Render: Click "Start Render" in the Render Queue.
By using the In and Out points or exporting individual clips, you can precisely control which sections of your DaVinci Resolve project are exported.
