There are a couple of ways to add LUTs (Look-Up Tables) to DaVinci Resolve: through the Project Settings and directly within a node in the Color page. Here's how to do both:
Method 1: Adding LUTs Through Project Settings (Applying to All Projects)
This method makes the LUT available in all your DaVinci Resolve projects.
- Open DaVinci Resolve: Launch the application.
- Go to Project Settings: Navigate to DaVinci Resolve > Preferences (on macOS) or File > Project Settings (on Windows/Linux).
- Select Color Management: In the Project Settings window, click on the "Color Management" tab.
- Open LUT Locations: Scroll down to the "LUT Locations" section. Click the "Open LUT Folder" button. This will open the folder where DaVinci Resolve stores its LUTs.
- Copy LUT Files: Copy (or move) the
.cube
or.3dl
LUT files you want to add into this folder. - Restart DaVinci Resolve (Important): Close and reopen DaVinci Resolve for the software to recognize the newly added LUTs.
- Access LUTs: The LUTs will now appear in the "LUTs" panel in the Color page, under the "Locations" section in the LUT browser.
Method 2: Applying a LUT to a Node in the Color Page (Project Specific)
This method applies the LUT to a specific clip in your current project.
- Open the Color Page: In DaVinci Resolve, go to the "Color" page.
- Select a Clip: Select the clip you want to apply the LUT to.
- Create a Node: Add a new node or select an existing node where you want to apply the LUT. You can add a new Serial Node by pressing
Alt/Option + S
. - Access the LUT Browser: Click on the "LUTs" panel in the top left corner. If you don't see thumbnails, look for a view option (like a thumbnail view) to display them.
- Apply the LUT:
- Double-click: Double-click the LUT you want to apply from the LUT browser. This will apply it to the selected node.
- Drag and Drop: Drag the LUT from the LUT browser and drop it onto the selected node.
Troubleshooting
- LUTs Not Showing Up: If the LUTs aren't showing up in the LUT browser, make sure you've placed them in the correct folder (as described in Method 1) and have restarted DaVinci Resolve.
- Thumbnails Not Visible: In the LUT browser, ensure that the view option is set to "thumbnail view" so you can see a preview of the LUTs.
By following these steps, you can effectively add and use LUTs in DaVinci Resolve to enhance your color grading workflow.
