Understanding CCP-ACP

CCP-ACP is a bioactive material used in various dental products. The casein phosphopeptide (CPP) acts as a carrier for the amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP). This combination offers several benefits:

  • Remineralization: ACP provides a readily available source of calcium and phosphate ions. These ions are crucial for remineralizing tooth enamel, helping to repair early stages of tooth decay (caries). The CPP helps to keep the ACP stable and deliver it effectively to the tooth surface.

  • Protection: The CPP-ACP complex adheres to the tooth surface and within dental plaque, forming a protective layer. This layer helps to prevent further acid attacks and erosion caused by bacteria and dietary acids.

How CCP-ACP Works

CCP-ACP works by increasing the saturation of calcium and phosphate ions in the saliva and on the tooth surface. This high saturation makes it harder for acids produced by bacteria to dissolve the enamel. When demineralization (tooth decay) occurs, the readily available calcium and phosphate from CCP-ACP can help reverse the process.
