What is a Bridge in Teeth?

Published in Dental Restorations 1 min read

A dental bridge literally bridges the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Essentially, a dental bridge is a restoration used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. It consists of:

  • Abutment Teeth: These are the anchoring teeth on either side of the gap. They are typically crowned to provide support for the pontic.
  • Pontic: This is the false tooth (or teeth) that fills the gap. It is attached to the crowns on the abutment teeth.

In simple terms, a bridge uses the neighboring teeth to hold a replacement tooth in place where one is missing. This restores the appearance of your smile and helps maintain proper bite and prevent shifting of adjacent teeth.
