Who founded dermatology?

Published in Dermatology History 1 min read

Dr. Henry Daggett Bulkley is widely recognized as the founder of American dermatology. He established the practice in New York City in the early 1800s. After studying cutaneous diseases in Parisian hospitals, he returned to New York and became a pioneer in the field.

While Dr. Bulkley is recognized for establishing dermatology in America, the field itself has a much longer history. Early writings on skin diseases date back to ancient civilizations, with notable contributions from Galen and Robert Willan.
