What is a Development Package?

Published in Development Regulations 2 mins read

A Development Package (DP) is a crucial collection of construction documents illustrating how a proposed project will be developed to meet specific requirements. Think of it as a blueprint for ensuring a project complies with local, and sometimes state, regulations.

More specifically, a Development Package serves to demonstrate compliance with:

  • Unified Development Code (UDC): This is a comprehensive set of regulations governing land use and development within a specific jurisdiction.
  • Other Applicable Local Regulations: This can include zoning ordinances, building codes, environmental regulations, and other local laws that impact development.
  • State Statutes: In some instances, state laws may also influence development projects, requiring adherence to certain standards.

In essence, the Development Package's purpose is to:

  • Provide a detailed plan for the project.
  • Demonstrate adherence to all relevant regulations.
  • Facilitate review and approval by relevant authorities.

Failing to provide an adequate Development Package, or failing to adhere to its guidelines during construction, can result in project delays, fines, or even complete project shutdowns. Therefore, careful preparation and execution of the Development Package are vital for any development project.
