How to Use Night Shift?

Published in Display Settings 3 mins read

Night Shift is a feature that adjusts the colors of your display to warmer tones, which can be easier on your eyes, especially at night. You can enable Night Shift in two main ways: through Control Center or through the Settings app.

Enabling Night Shift Through Control Center

This method provides a quick and easy way to toggle Night Shift on or off:

  1. Open Control Center: Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen (on iPhones with Face ID) or swipe up from the bottom of the screen (on iPhones with a Home button).
  2. Locate the Brightness Control: Find the brightness control icon, which looks like a sun.
  3. Touch and Hold: Press and hold the brightness control icon to expand it.
  4. Tap Night Shift: Tap the Night Shift button, typically located at the bottom of the expanded brightness control, to toggle it on or off.

Enabling and Scheduling Night Shift Through Settings

This method allows you to schedule when Night Shift turns on automatically and to adjust the color temperature:

  1. Open Settings: Tap the Settings app icon on your home screen.
  2. Go to Display & Brightness: Scroll down and tap "Display & Brightness."
  3. Find Night Shift: Tap "Night Shift."
  4. Schedule Night Shift:
    • Turn on Scheduled: Toggle "Scheduled" to the 'on' position to schedule Night Shift to turn on and off automatically.
    • Set the Schedule: Tap the time to specify when Night Shift should turn on (From) and turn off (To). You can choose between a custom time or "Sunset to Sunrise", which will adjust based on your location.
  5. Adjust Color Temperature:
    • Use the Slider: Below the schedule settings, there is a slider. Moving the slider to the left will make the display warmer (more yellow), while moving it to the right will make the display cooler (more blue). Set the color temperature to your preference.

Benefits of Using Night Shift

  • Reduced Blue Light: Night Shift reduces the amount of blue light emitted from your screen, which can interfere with your sleep cycle.
  • Less Eye Strain: The warmer color tones can be more comfortable for your eyes, especially in low-light environments.
  • Improved Sleep: By reducing blue light exposure in the evening, Night Shift can help improve your sleep quality.

| Feature | Control Center Method | Settings Method |

By following these steps, you can effectively use Night Shift to enhance your screen viewing experience, particularly during the evening, and benefit from its potential for reduced eye strain and improved sleep.
