How to Make Oil Cleanser at Home?

Published in DIY Beauty 3 mins read

Making your own oil cleanser at home is simple! Here's a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp Castor Oil
  • 1 tbsp Jojoba Oil
  • 2 tbsp Apricot Kernel Oil
  • 2 tbsp Hemp Seed Oil
  • Essential oils (optional): e.g., 1 drop each of Lavender, Frankincense, Patchouli, and Ylang Ylang.
  • Amber Dropper Bottle (50ml)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Carrier Oils: In a clean container, mix the castor oil, jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil, and hemp seed oil.
  2. Add Essential Oils (Optional): If desired, add your chosen essential oils, one drop at a time. Start with a small amount and adjust to your preference. Essential oils can add fragrance and offer therapeutic benefits (e.g., lavender for relaxation).
  3. Mix Thoroughly: Stir the mixture well to ensure all ingredients are properly combined.
  4. Transfer to Bottle: Pour the oil cleanser into the amber dropper bottle. Amber glass helps protect the oils from light degradation, preserving their quality.

How to Use:

  1. Apply to Dry Skin: Gently massage a small amount of the oil cleanser onto your dry face, including your eye area, using circular motions.
  2. Massage for 1-2 Minutes: Continue massaging for 1-2 minutes to dissolve makeup, dirt, and oil.
  3. Warm Cloth Compress: Wet a clean washcloth with warm water. Wring out the excess water and place the warm cloth over your face for a few seconds. This helps to steam and open pores.
  4. Wipe Clean: Gently wipe away the oil cleanser with the warm cloth. You may need to repeat this step once or twice to remove all traces of the oil.
  5. Pat Dry: Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

Important Considerations:

  • Castor Oil: Castor oil is a key ingredient because it helps to draw out impurities. However, it can be drying for some skin types. Adjust the ratio of castor oil to other oils based on your skin's needs. If your skin feels dry, reduce the amount of castor oil or eliminate it entirely.
  • Carrier Oils: Jojoba oil is similar to the skin's natural sebum, making it a great option for most skin types. Apricot kernel oil is light and easily absorbed. Hemp seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids and can be beneficial for irritated skin. You can customize the blend of carrier oils based on your skin type. Other options include grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, or avocado oil.
  • Patch Test: Before using any new skincare product, it's important to perform a patch test on a small area of skin to check for any allergic reactions.
  • Storage: Store your oil cleanser in a cool, dark place to prevent the oils from going rancid.
