Bardock, the father of Goku, met his demise at the hands of Frieza when he attempted to stop Frieza's planned destruction of Planet Vegeta. Bardock, having gained the ability to see visions of the future, foresaw the impending doom of his race and their planet. He challenged Frieza directly, launching an attack while Frieza was in orbit around Planet Vegeta.
However, Frieza countered with a devastating energy blast that consumed Bardock and obliterated Planet Vegeta in one fell swoop. This act marked the near-extinction of the Saiyan race. Bardock's final act of defiance was a futile attempt to change the future he had witnessed.
