How to Use an OXO Drain Stopper

Published in Drain Stopper Use 2 mins read

Easily manage water flow in your sink by switching between stopping and straining with your OXO drain stopper.

Many OXO drain stoppers are designed with a dual function, serving as both a sink strainer to catch debris and a stopper to fill the basin with water. The key to switching between these modes lies in the central post mechanism.

Switching Between Stop and Strain Modes

Operating your OXO stopper/strainer is straightforward:

  1. Placement: Ensure the device is placed correctly in your sink drain opening.
  2. Changing Mode: Press down firmly on the central post.
  3. Confirmation: You'll know you have successfully switched from straining to stopping, or vice versa, when the post clicks into place. This audible and tactile click confirms the device is secured in the desired position.
  • To Stop Water: Press the central post until it clicks into the lower, sealed position.
  • To Drain Water (and Strain): Press the central post again until it clicks into the raised, open position, allowing water to pass through while catching solids.

Design Benefits

A notable feature of OXO sink stoppers is their thoughtful construction. The silicone underside is specifically designed so it won't scratch your sink basin, protecting your sink's surface while providing an effective seal or straining function.

Using your OXO drain stopper correctly ensures efficient sink management and protects your sink from potential damage. Simply listen for the click to confirm the function is set!
