The outer core is the only entirely liquid layer within the Earth. It's located between the mantle and the inner core, starting at a depth of 2,890 km and extending to 5,150 km. This means it's approximately 2,300 km thick.
The outer core is primarily composed of iron and nickel, with trace amounts of other elements. It's incredibly hot, with temperatures estimated to be around 4,500°C to 5,500°C. The intense pressure and heat combine to create a liquid state for these metals.
