The physical layers are based on physical characteristics.
These physical characteristics help differentiate between the layers and include properties like:
- Lithosphere: Rigid and brittle outer layer, comprised of the crust and uppermost mantle.
- Asthenosphere: Partially molten, ductile layer beneath the lithosphere, allowing for movement.
In contrast to physical layers, chemical layers are based on chemical composition. The chemical layers are the crust, mantle, and core.
