Installing an electric blanket correctly is a key step to ensuring comfort and safe use. The primary part of the installation process involves properly positioning the blanket on your mattress.
Preparing for Installation
Before you begin, ensure you have the correct size electric blanket for your bed. Unpack the blanket and identify the control cord and the sockets on the blanket where the controls attach.
Placing the Electric Blanket
The most crucial step is placing the blanket on your mattress.
- Begin by laying the electric blanket directly on top of your mattress.
- Position the blanket so that the control sockets are located near the head of the bed. These sockets should be on the underside of the blanket (the side that will face the mattress) at the head end.
- Carefully spread the blanket smoothly over the mattress, pulling out any wrinkles.
- Crucially, ensure the heating wires do not extend under the pillows. The heating elements are designed for the body area and should not be concentrated or bent under the pillow where your head rests.
Once the blanket is properly positioned on the mattress, you can then place your fitted sheet and other bedding over it as usual.
Connecting the Controls
After the blanket is placed:
- Locate the control cord(s).
- Connect the control plug(s) securely into the socket(s) on the electric blanket. Ensure a firm connection.
- Route the cord(s) neatly down the side of the bed towards the power outlet.
- Plug the control cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
- Place the controller(s) in an easily accessible location, such as a bedside table.
