Charging an electric car involves connecting it to a power source to replenish its battery. All electric cars come with a cable that can be plugged into a standard wall outlet with no equipment installation required.
Charging Levels Explained
Electric vehicle (EV) charging is typically categorized into three levels, each offering different charging speeds and requiring different types of equipment.
Level 1 Charging
- Description: Level 1 charging utilizes a standard 120V AC outlet, which is the same type you use for household appliances.
- Speed: This is the slowest charging method, adding only about 3-5 miles of range per hour of charging.
- Equipment: All electric cars come with a cable that can be plugged into a standard wall outlet with no equipment installation required.
- Suitable For: Level 1 works well at home, work or anywhere—when you have sufficient time to charge. For example, this might be sufficient for overnight charging if you only drive a short distance daily.
