How to Use Solder Seal Heat Shrink?

Using solder seal heat shrink connectors provides a waterproof and reliable electrical connection. Here's how to use them effectively:

Steps:

  1. Strip the Wires: Carefully strip the insulation from the ends of the wires you want to connect. Ensure you strip enough insulation to allow the wires to be inserted into the solder seal connector and still overlap within the solder ring.

  2. Insert the Wires: Insert the stripped ends of both wires into the solder seal connector. Overlap the bare wires inside the connector, positioning them within the solder ring.

  3. Apply Heat: Use a heat gun to evenly heat the solder seal connector. Aim the heat at the solder ring in the center.

  4. Observe the Solder Melting: Watch carefully as the solder begins to melt. You should see the solder flow and create a secure electrical connection between the wires.

  5. Continue Heating for Seal: Keep applying heat until the heat shrink tubing shrinks tightly around the wires and the adhesive sealant (if present) melts and flows, creating a waterproof seal.

  6. Allow to Cool: Let the connection cool completely before moving or stressing the wires. This allows the solder and adhesive to solidify properly.

Key Considerations:

  • Heat Gun: A heat gun is the recommended tool for applying heat. Avoid using an open flame, as it can damage the connector and wires.
  • Even Heating: Ensure you apply heat evenly around the solder ring and heat shrink tubing for a uniform connection and seal.
  • Solder Flow: Confirm that the solder melts and flows completely around the wires for a solid electrical connection.
  • Waterproof Seal: The adhesive sealant within the heat shrink creates a waterproof barrier, protecting the connection from corrosion and moisture.
