Was Tesla for AC or DC?

Published in Electrical Engineering 1 min read

Nikola Tesla was for alternating current (AC).

Tesla championed alternating current as a more efficient and practical system for electricity distribution compared to Thomas Edison's direct current (DC). The "War of the Currents" saw Tesla's AC system eventually become the standard due to its ability to be transmitted over long distances using transformers to step up voltage. DC, on the other hand, suffered from significant power loss over distance, making it less suitable for widespread use. Tesla's inventions, particularly the AC induction motor, were crucial to the adoption of AC power.
