The Rule Itself:

Imagine holding your right hand with your thumb, index finger, and middle finger extended at right angles to each other.

  • Thumb: Points in the direction of the motion of the conductor (the direction the wire is moving).
  • Index Finger: Points in the direction of the magnetic field (from North to South).
  • Middle Finger: Points in the direction of the induced current (the direction the current is flowing in the conductor).

Application in Generators:

In a generator, a coil of wire (the conductor) is forced to rotate within a magnetic field. As the coil moves, the magnetic flux through it changes. According to Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction, this change in flux induces an electromotive force (EMF), which drives a current.
