The element Neon was named by a child.
How Neon Got Its Name
Sir William Ramsay, a Scottish scientist renowned for discovering noble gases, discovered neon in 1898. According to Compound Interest, Ramsay's 13-year-old son suggested the name "novum" for the new element. However, Ramsay opted for "neon" instead. Thus, the name "neon" was chosen based on a child's suggestion, even if not the exact name proposed.
