Water-soluble stabilizer is used in embroidery to support the fabric during stitching, especially when working on delicate fabrics or projects with open areas. It washes away cleanly with water after the embroidery is complete. Here's how to use it:
-
Hooping: Hoop the water-soluble stabilizer along with your fabric. Ensure the stabilizer is taut and smooth in the hoop, providing a firm base for the embroidery. If you don't have sticky stabilizer, you can use basting spray to adhere the fabric to the stabilizer.
-
Embroidering: Embroider your design as usual. The stabilizer will support the stitches, preventing the fabric from puckering or distorting.
-
Removing Excess Stabilizer: After the embroidery is finished, carefully trim away as much of the excess stabilizer as possible from around the design. Be careful not to cut the stitches.
-
Washing Away the Stabilizer: Rinse the embroidered piece under lukewarm water. Gently rub the stabilizer until it dissolves completely. For thicker stabilizers or intricate designs, you may need to soak the piece in water for a longer period.
-
Drying: Once all the stabilizer is gone, gently blot the embroidered piece with a towel and allow it to air dry. You can also use a cool iron to press the piece while it's still slightly damp.
