A blastocyst is a hollow ball of cells that forms in the early stages of pregnancy, approximately five to seven days after an egg is fertilized by a sperm. It's a crucial developmental stage that precedes the embryo and fetus.

What Makes Up a Blastocyst?

The blastocyst is composed of two main parts:

This grading system helps fertility specialists determine the suitability of an embryo for transfer. The size and grading are indicators of the blastocyst's health and developmental potential. An early blastocyst might be graded 1 or 2, while more developed ones receive higher scores.
