How to Remove Eye Lenses?

Published in Eye Care 2 mins read

To remove eye lenses, gently pinch the lens off your eye using your thumb and forefinger.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the process:

  1. Wash Your Hands: Always begin by thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water. This minimizes the risk of introducing bacteria to your eye. Rinse and dry your hands well, as any residue can irritate your eye or contaminate the lens.

  2. Locate the Lens: Look in the mirror and use your other hand to gently pull up your upper eyelid and hold it against your brow bone. Use the fingers of the same hand that's holding up your upper eyelid to pull down your lower eyelid. This will widen your eye and help you locate the lens.

  3. Pinch and Remove: Look directly at the lens in the mirror. Use the pad of your index finger to gently move the lens down to the lower white part of your eye (the sclera). Using the pads of your thumb and index finger, gently pinch the lens and remove it from your eye. Avoid using your fingernails, as they can damage the lens or scratch your eye.

  4. Clean and Store: Once removed, clean the lens immediately with the recommended cleaning solution. After cleaning, store the lens in a clean lens case filled with fresh disinfecting solution. Never use tap water or saliva to clean or store your lenses.

Important Considerations:

  • Dry Eyes: If your lenses feel dry or are difficult to remove, use rewetting drops specifically designed for contact lenses to lubricate your eye.
  • Torn Lenses: If your lens is torn or damaged, discard it immediately. Do not attempt to wear a damaged lens.
  • Discomfort or Pain: If you experience any discomfort, pain, or redness in your eye, remove your lenses immediately and consult with an eye care professional.
