Do Tears Have Vitamins?

Published in Eye Health 1 min read

While tears are not typically considered a significant source of vitamins, research indicates the presence of at least one vitamin.

Studies have observed that tear fluid can contain vitamin D, sometimes even at higher concentrations than found in blood. However, this does not mean tears are a good source of vitamins or that they play a significant role in vitamin intake. The purpose of tears is primarily to lubricate and protect the eyes, remove irritants, and provide some antibacterial action.

It is important to note that the amount of vitamin D in tears is likely very small and should not be considered a reliable or substantial source of this nutrient. Obtaining vitamins from a balanced diet, supplements (when necessary), and sunlight exposure remains crucial for maintaining adequate vitamin levels.
