Sir Isaac Newton's mother was Hannah Ayscough.
Hannah Ayscough played a significant role in Newton's early life. After the death of Newton's father, also named Isaac Newton, she remarried when Newton was three years old. This led to Newton being raised by his maternal grandmother for a period. Her support and eventual return to Newton's life influenced his intellectual development and contributed to his eventual success. It is also interesting to note that she described the prematurely born Isaac as so small he could fit inside a quart mug.
