Which Ovary Has Eggs?

Published in Female Reproductive System 1 min read

Both ovaries have eggs, but they alternate releasing eggs each month.

One month, the left ovary will release an egg, and the next month, the right ovary will typically release an egg. Usually, only one egg is released per menstrual cycle. This alternating pattern is a normal part of the reproductive process.

  • Example: If an egg is released from the left ovary in January, the right ovary is likely to release an egg in February. This pattern repeats, although there can be variations.

This cyclical release of eggs is crucial for conception. If the egg is not fertilized, menstruation occurs approximately two weeks after ovulation.
