Fetal gender refers to whether a developing baby is male or female, which is determined at conception.
How Fetal Gender is Determined
According to available information, the gender of a baby is determined at the moment of conception:
- When the sperm contributes a Y chromosome, the fetus will be male.
- When the sperm contributes an X chromosome, the fetus will be female.
Boys' and girls' genitals develop along the same path with no outward sign of gender until about nine weeks.
