You can rotate objects or layers in Figma using the rotation field in the Design panel of the right sidebar.
Here's a breakdown of how to rotate elements in Figma:
-
Select the Layer(s) or Object(s): Choose the item(s) you want to rotate on the Figma canvas. You can select multiple layers to rotate them together.
-
Locate the Rotation Field: In the right sidebar, make sure you have the "Design" tab selected. At the top of this panel, you'll find the rotation field. It's represented by an angle icon and a numerical value indicating the current rotation in degrees.
-
Enter the Desired Rotation:
-
Manual Input: Type the desired rotation angle (in degrees) directly into the rotation field. Positive values rotate clockwise, while negative values rotate counter-clockwise. Press Enter or Return to apply the rotation.
-
Interactive Rotation (Using the Handle): Hover your cursor just outside one of the corner handles of the selected object. The cursor will change to a rotate icon. Click and drag to rotate the object visually. As you rotate, Figma displays the current rotation angle.
-
-
Precise Rotation: For more precise control, hold down the Shift key while dragging the rotation handle. This constrains the rotation to 45-degree increments.
Example:
If you want to rotate a rectangle 90 degrees clockwise, select the rectangle, go to the rotation field in the Design panel, and enter "90".
Tips:
- Rotating around a different point: Figma rotates around the center point of the selected object by default. You can't directly change the rotation point within the Figma interface. A workaround would be to group the object with an invisible rectangle where you want the center to be, and then rotate the group.
- Resetting Rotation: To reset an object's rotation to its original orientation (0 degrees), simply enter "0" in the rotation field.
