How Big Is My Video File?

Published in File Management 2 mins read

To quickly find the size of your video file, locate the file and check the information displayed by your operating system. Here's how:

  • Locate Your Video File: First, navigate to the folder where you saved the video. This could be your Documents folder, Desktop, a specific video folder, or anywhere else you chose to save it.

  • Select the File: Click on the video file once to select it.

  • Check the Information Bar (Windows): In Windows, the file size is often displayed in the information bar at the bottom of the File Explorer window. It will typically say "Size:" followed by the file size (e.g., "Size: 25 MB"). You may need to enable the details pane by clicking "View" then "Details pane."

  • Get Info (macOS): On macOS, right-click (or Control-click) on the video file and select "Get Info" from the context menu. A window will appear showing various details about the file, including its "Size."

Alternative Methods:

  • File Properties/Details: Right-click on the video file and select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (macOS). The resulting window will contain a "Size" field that indicates the file size. This window often provides both the actual size of the file on disk and the logical size of the file.

  • File Manager Column: In your file manager (File Explorer on Windows, Finder on macOS), ensure that the "Size" column is visible. If it's not, you can usually add it by right-clicking on the column headers and selecting "Size." This will display the size of each file directly in the file listing.
