You can add a rectangle in Final Cut Pro by using the built-in "Shape" generator.
Steps to Add a Rectangle
Here's how you can add and customize a rectangle:
-
Access the Generators: At the top of the viewer, look for and click the Generator button. This will open the Generators browser.
-
Select the Shape Generator: In the Generators browser, locate the Shape generator. You might find it under the "Elements" category.
-
Apply the Generator to Your Timeline: Drag the Shape generator from the Generators browser onto your timeline, positioning it where you want the rectangle to appear.
-
Access the Generator Inspector: With the Shape generator clip selected on the timeline, go to the Inspector window (usually located on the right side of the screen). If the Inspector isn't visible, go to Window > Show Inspector (or press Command-4). Ensure the "Generator" tab is selected within the Inspector.
-
Choose Rectangle: In the Generator inspector, click the Shape pop-up menu and choose "Rectangle."
-
Customize the Rectangle: Within the Generator inspector, you'll find various options to customize your rectangle:
- Fill Color: Choose the color for the inside of the rectangle.
- Outline Color: Choose the color for the border of the rectangle.
- Width: Adjust the thickness of the rectangle's outline.
- Drop Shadow: Add and customize a drop shadow for the rectangle. Adjust parameters like angle, distance, and blur.
-
Adjust Position and Size: In the Viewer window, you can directly manipulate the rectangle's position, size, and rotation using the on-screen controls. Alternatively, use the "Transform" controls within the Video inspector tab to fine-tune these properties.
-
Reset to Defaults: If you make changes you don't like, you can click the Reset button in the Generator inspector to return the rectangle to its default settings.
By using the Shape generator, you can easily add and customize rectangles and other shapes within your Final Cut Pro projects.
