How to Show Layers in Final Cut Pro?

Published in Final Cut Pro 1 min read

To show or hide layers (more accurately called clips or tracks) in Final Cut Pro, you can toggle their visibility on the Timeline. This allows you to control which clips are visible in your project.

Here's how:

  • Select the clip you want to show or hide directly in the Timeline.

  • Press the "V" key. This toggles the clip's visibility.

    • If the clip was visible, pressing "V" will hide it.
    • If the clip was hidden, pressing "V" will make it visible.

When a clip is hidden, its video and audio contributions will be disabled in the Viewer and during export, but the clip remains in the Timeline for later use. A clip that is disabled using the "V" key often appears slightly greyed out in the timeline to indicate it is not active.
