How do I set up fingerprints on my laptop?

Published in Fingerprint Security 2 mins read

To set up fingerprint recognition on your laptop, follow these steps within your operating system's settings:

  1. Access Settings: Click the Start button and then select "Settings."
  2. Navigate to Accounts: In the Settings menu, click on "Accounts."
  3. Find Sign-in Options: On the left-hand side of the Accounts window, click on "Sign-in options."
  4. Locate Fingerprint Options: Look for "Windows Hello Fingerprint" or a similar fingerprint-related section. If you don't see it, your laptop might not have a fingerprint reader.
  5. Get Started: Click the "Get started" button under the Fingerprint section.
  6. Enter Your PIN: You'll likely need to enter your PIN (Personal Identification Number) for verification. If you don't have a PIN set up, you'll be prompted to create one.
  7. Scan Your Finger: Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your finger on the fingerprint reader. You may need to lift and place your finger multiple times to get a complete scan.
  8. Add More Fingers (Optional): After the first finger is scanned, you can click "Add Another" to register more fingerprints. This is recommended for convenience in case one finger is unavailable or injured.
  9. Finish Setup: Once you've added all the desired fingerprints, close the settings window.

Your fingerprint recognition should now be set up. You can use it to unlock your laptop and for other authentication purposes, depending on your system's configuration.
