Type V skin, according to the Fitzpatrick scale, is characterized by dark brown skin, brown or black hair, and brown eyes. Individuals with this skin type tan easily and rarely burn. Common ethnic backgrounds associated with Type V skin include Asian, Indian, and some African populations. People with this skin tone also include light-skinned African Americans, those of Middle Eastern descent, and individuals of Indian heritage. Although individuals with Type V skin tan easily and rarely burn, they are still susceptible to sun damage and should utilize sun protection.
