Why does the crew not talk during takeoff and landing?

Published in Flight Safety 1 min read

The crew refrains from non-essential communication during takeoff and landing primarily to avoid distractions and maintain focus on the critical tasks at hand.

Speaking to passengers during this transition could be an unnecessary distraction which might result in confusion or at least not giving your full attention to the task at hand. That being getting the aircraft to altitude for an economical flight at cruise settings.
