How do you make paint out of flowers?

Published in Flower Painting 1 min read

You can make paint out of flowers by extracting their natural pigments. Here's a simple method:

  1. Gather your flowers: Choose flowers with vibrant colors, like poppies, buttercups, daisies, geraniums, dandelions, and cornflowers. Make sure to ask permission if you're picking from someone else's garden. You'll need enough petals to fill a coffee cup.
  2. Prepare the petals: Remove the petals from the flowers and place them in a small jar.
  3. Add water: Cover the petals with warm or boiling water.
  4. Add vinegar and salt: Add 2-3 drops of vinegar and a pinch of salt to help stabilize the pigment.
  5. Steep and strain: Allow the petals to steep in the water for several hours, or even overnight. Then, strain the liquid through a sieve into a clean jar.
  6. Your flower paint is ready! You can now use your flower paint to create beautiful artwork.

This method creates a natural watercolor paint that's perfect for adding a unique touch to your projects.
