Can I Drink Tea After Watermelon?

Published in Food Combinations 1 min read

It's generally not recommended to drink tea immediately after eating watermelon.

While there's no inherent danger, there are a few reasons why this combination might not be ideal:

  • Conflicting Properties: Watermelon is considered to have cooling properties, while hot tea, especially with milk, has warming properties. Consuming them one after the other might disrupt your body's balance.
  • Digestive Discomfort: Some individuals may experience digestive discomfort due to the combination. Watermelon is primarily water and can dilute digestive juices. Tea, particularly those with caffeine, can stimulate digestion. The combination could lead to bloating, gas, or an upset stomach in sensitive individuals.
  • Nutrient Absorption: While unlikely, some components in tea (like tannins) might theoretically interfere with the absorption of certain nutrients from watermelon.

Therefore, it's advisable to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour between eating watermelon and drinking tea to allow for proper digestion and minimize any potential discomfort.
