What Type of Feet Are Considered Normal?

Published in Foot Arch Types 2 mins read

There's no single "normal" foot type, as foot structure varies greatly among individuals. However, the most common foot type is characterized by a normal arch.

Understanding Foot Arches

A normal arch is defined by the visibility of approximately half of the arch region when standing. This type of arch effectively supports body weight and pronates (rolls inward) normally during movement. The reference material clarifies that if you can see about half your arch region, you have the most common foot type.

Other Foot Arch Types

It's important to note that other arch types exist, including:

  • High arches (pes cavus): Show little to no visible arch. These feet don't absorb shock as well during activities like running.
  • Flat feet (pes planus): Exhibit a complete or almost complete absence of an arch. The entire sole of the foot touches the ground.

The ideal foot type is one that provides adequate support, shock absorption, and efficient movement without causing pain or discomfort. Individual variations in foot structure are common and don't always indicate a problem.
