How to Create Component Groups in Fusion 360

Published in Fusion 360 Component Management 2 mins read

Creating groups of components in Fusion 360 can streamline your design process, especially when managing complex assemblies. While Fusion 360 offers a basic command for temporary grouping during a single operation, you can also create more permanent component groups using a straightforward method.

To create a more permanent component group in Fusion 360, follow these simple steps:

  1. Select the Components: Identify and select the components you wish to group together. You can do this by clicking on them individually in the canvas or in the Browser tree while holding down Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (macOS) for multiple selections.
  2. Right-Click: Right-click on one of the selected components (either in the canvas or the Browser tree).
  3. Click "New Group": From the context menu that appears, select the "New Group" option.

Once you click "New Group," Fusion 360 creates the group. The group is visually marked in the design with a bounding box surrounding the components and a label displayed at the top of the group. This helps you easily identify and manage the grouped items.

It's important to note the distinction mentioned in the reference:

  • Basic Group Command: Used for creating a temporary group for a single operation.
  • New Group Command: Used for creating a more permanent group, as described above.

By using the "New Group" command, you create a structured way to keep related components organized within your Fusion 360 design, making it easier to manipulate them as a unit.
