Vatican City is the smallest country in the world.

Vatican City, officially the Vatican City State, is an independent city-state enclaved within Rome, Italy. It has an area of approximately 0.44 square kilometers (0.17 square miles). To put that into perspective, the largest country in the world, Russia, is about 39 million times bigger! Vatican City is governed as an absolute ecclesiastical monarchy, headed by the Pope. It is the sovereign territory of the Holy See and is the spiritual center for the Roman Catholic Church. While small in size, Vatican City holds immense historical, religious, and cultural significance.
