You can edit the grid in GIMP either through the preferences for default behavior or directly for the current image.
Customizing the Default Grid
To change how the grid looks in GIMP by default for all images:
- Go to Edit → Preferences.
- In the Preferences dialog, select Default Image Grid.
- Here, you can customize options such as:
- Grid Line Style: Choose between solid, dashed, dotted, etc.
- Grid Line Color: Select a color that contrasts well with your image.
- Grid Spacing: Specify the horizontal and vertical spacing of the grid lines. This determines the size of the grid cells.
- Grid Offset: Adjust the horizontal and vertical offset to reposition the grid.
These settings will apply to new images you create or open.
Configuring the Grid for the Current Image
If you want to modify the grid's appearance only for the image you're currently working on:
- Go to Image → Configure Grid.
- This opens the "Configure Grid" dialog, which presents the same customization options as the Default Image Grid preferences (Grid Line Style, Grid Line Color, Grid Spacing, and Grid Offset), but the changes only affect the current image.
This allows you to have different grid configurations for different projects. Remember to enable the grid using View → Show Grid after configuring it to see the changes.
