How do I add distortion in GIMP?

Published in GIMP Image Editing 1 min read

You can add distortion in GIMP using the Lens Distortion filter.

Here's how to access it:

  1. Go to the Filters menu in the image window.
  2. Select Distorts.
  3. Choose Lens Distortion.

This will open the Lens Distortion dialog, where you can adjust various parameters to create the desired distortion effect. Common parameters include:

  • Main: Controls the primary distortion. Positive values create a barrel distortion (pinched in the middle), while negative values create a pincushion distortion (bulging out).
  • Edge Brighten: Brightens the edges of the image, which can help counteract darkening caused by distortion.

Experiment with these settings to achieve the desired effect. You can see a preview of the distortion in the image window before applying the filter.
