How Do I Zoom In On GIMP?

Published in GIMP Image Editing 2 mins read

You can zoom in on GIMP by accessing the Zoom submenu.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the View Menu: In the image window's menu bar, click on View.
  2. Select Zoom: In the dropdown menu, find and select Zoom. The current zoom level is often displayed alongside the "Zoom" label (e.g., Zoom (100%)).
  3. Choose Your Zoom Level: The Zoom submenu will offer several options to zoom in (and out), such as:
    • Zoom In
    • Zoom Out
    • Fit Image in Window
    • 100% (1:1)

You can also use keyboard shortcuts for zooming:

  • Zoom In: Ctrl + + (plus sign) or Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Up
  • Zoom Out: Ctrl + - (minus sign) or Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Down

Alternatively, you can use the Zoom tool:

  1. Select the Zoom Tool: Find the Zoom tool in the Toolbox. It looks like a magnifying glass.
  2. Click to Zoom: Click on the image to zoom in. Holding the Ctrl key while clicking will zoom out.
  3. Adjust Zoom in Tool Options: In the Tool Options panel (usually docked below the Toolbox), you can specify a precise zoom percentage or choose "Zoom in" or "Zoom out" as the mode.
