You can change shortcuts in GIMP through the Keyboard Shortcuts editor, accessible through two primary methods:
Method 1: Via the Main Menu
- Go to the Edit menu.
- Select Keyboard Shortcuts. This will open the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.
Method 2: Via the Preferences Dialog
- Go to the Edit menu.
- Select Preferences.
- In the Preferences dialog, locate the Interface section.
- Click the Configure Keyboard Shortcuts... button. This will open the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.
Using the Keyboard Shortcuts Dialog
Once the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog is open, you can:
- Browse: Explore all available commands and their current shortcuts.
- Search: Use the search bar to find specific commands.
- Change Shortcuts: Click on the shortcut associated with a command. The field will become editable. Press the desired key combination to assign it as the new shortcut. If the shortcut is already assigned to another command, you will be prompted to resolve the conflict.
- Clear Shortcuts: Right-click on a shortcut and select "Clear Shortcut" to remove an assignment.
- Save: Click the "OK" button to save your changes.
Important Considerations:
- Conflicts: Be mindful of shortcut conflicts. GIMP will warn you if a shortcut is already in use. Resolve conflicts by reassigning the conflicting shortcut or choosing a different combination.
- Reset to Default: If you want to revert to the default shortcuts, you can usually find a "Reset" or "Load Defaults" option within the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.
By using the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, you can customize your GIMP experience to match your preferred workflow. Remember to save your changes after making modifications.
