Gmail IMAP Configuration Details

Published in Gmail Settings 2 mins read

Here are the Gmail IMAP settings you need to configure your email client.

You can access your Gmail account using the IMAP protocol, which allows your email program to synchronize with your mailbox on the server. This means changes you make in your email client (like reading, deleting, or moving messages) are reflected on the Gmail server and across any other devices or clients you use.

To set up your email program with Gmail via IMAP, you will need the following information:

Setting Value
IMAP Server imap.gmail.com
IMAP Port 993
IMAP Security SSL / TLS
IMAP Username Your full email address
IMAP Password Your GMail password

Understanding the Settings

  • IMAP Server (imap.gmail.com): This is the address of the server that handles incoming mail via the IMAP protocol.
  • IMAP Port (993): This specific port number is used for secure connections for the IMAP protocol.
  • IMAP Security (SSL / TLS): These are encryption protocols used to secure the connection between your email client and the Gmail server, ensuring your data is protected during transmission.
  • IMAP Username (Your full email address): You need to use your complete Gmail address (e.g., [email protected]) as your username.
  • IMAP Password (Your GMail password): Use the password associated with your Gmail account.

Note: If you have 2-Step Verification enabled on your Gmail account, you may need to generate and use an App Password instead of your regular password when setting up your email client.

Using these settings, you can successfully connect your email program to your Gmail account and manage your inbox effectively.
