How to Manage Google Assistant Spoken Notifications on Earbuds

Published in Google Assistant Earbuds Notifications 2 mins read

Easily control whether Google Assistant speaks notifications through your earbuds by adjusting the Spoken notifications setting in your Google Assistant settings. While this doesn't fully disable the Google Assistant feature on the earbuds themselves, it stops Assistant from audibly announcing incoming alerts and information through your headphones.

To manage Google Assistant spoken notifications for your earbuds, follow these steps:

  1. Access Assistant Settings: On your Android phone or tablet, say the voice command "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
  2. Navigate to Devices: In the Assistant settings menu, tap on the "Devices" option.
  3. Select Your Headphones: Under the "Personal" section, locate and tap on the entry for your headphones (which include earbuds). Then, look for "Spoken notifications".
  4. Toggle Notifications: Tap on "Spoken notifications" and turn the setting on or off according to your preference.

Turning off Spoken notifications means Google Assistant will no longer read out alerts, message previews, calendar events, or other notifications directly into your earbuds while you're wearing them.

Tip: You often have the option to selectively turn off spoken notifications for specific apps if you prefer to receive some notifications audibly but not others. This granular control allows you to customize which app alerts are read out.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage the level of audio interaction you have with Google Assistant through your earbuds, specifically preventing it from speaking notifications.
