You can share your Google Calendar with specific people, or make it public for anyone to view. Here's how to share your Google Calendar:
Sharing with Specific People or Groups
This method allows you to control exactly who has access to your calendar and what permissions they have.
-
Open Google Calendar on a Computer: Sharing options are most easily managed from a computer. Go to Google Calendar.
-
Locate "My calendars": On the left side of the screen, find the "My calendars" section. You might need to expand the left panel if it's collapsed.
-
Access Calendar Options: Hover your cursor over the calendar you want to share. Click the three vertical dots (More options).
-
Open Settings and Sharing: Select "Settings and sharing" from the menu.
-
Add People: Under the "Share with specific people or groups" section, click "Add people and groups."
-
Enter Email Addresses: Type in the email address(es) of the person or Google Group you want to share your calendar with.
-
Set Permissions: Use the permission dropdown to choose the level of access you want to grant:
- See only free/busy (hide details): Others can see when you have events but not the specific details.
- See all event details: Others can see the titles and descriptions of your events.
- Make changes to events: Others can edit existing events and create new ones.
- Make changes AND manage sharing: Others can edit events, create new ones, and also share the calendar with others.
-
Send Invitation: Click "Send." The person or group will receive an email notification with access to your calendar.
Making Your Calendar Public
Warning: Making your calendar public means anyone on the internet can find and view it. Only do this if you are comfortable with this level of visibility.
-
Follow steps 1-4 above to access the "Settings and sharing" page for your calendar.
-
Access Permissions Options: In the "Access permissions for events" section, check the box next to "Make available to public."
-
Choose Visibility: A dropdown menu will appear. Select either "See only free/busy (hide details)" or "See all event details".
-
Understand the Implications: Google will display a warning about making your calendar public. Carefully consider the implications before proceeding. Click "OK" to confirm.
-
Get Shareable Link (Optional): Once public, you can often find an option to "Get shareable link" which you can then give to others. This is under the "Access permissions for events" section.
Important Considerations
- Privacy: Be mindful of the information you share, especially if you're sharing your calendar with someone you don't know well.
- Permissions: Grant the appropriate level of access. Start with the least permissive option and increase it if necessary.
- Revoking Access: You can remove someone's access to your calendar at any time by returning to the "Share with specific people or groups" section and deleting their email address.
- iCal Format: Sharing a public calendar often provides an iCal link. This allows users to subscribe to your calendar in other calendar applications (e.g., Outlook, Apple Calendar).
By following these steps, you can successfully share your Google Calendar and control who has access to your schedule.
