To turn off Google Chat notifications within Gmail, follow these steps:
-
Open the Gmail app. This is the app you use to check your Gmail emails.
-
Tap the Menu icon. This is typically located at the top-left corner of the screen and looks like three horizontal lines.
-
Select Settings. From the menu that appears, scroll down and tap on "Settings."
-
Choose your account. If you have multiple Gmail accounts, select the account you want to disable Google Chat notifications for.
-
Uncheck "Chat notifications." Under the "Notifications" section, find the option labeled "Chat notifications" (or something similar indicating Google Chat notifications) and uncheck the box next to it. This will disable notifications specifically for Google Chat within that Gmail account.
By following these steps, you will stop receiving notifications from Google Chat within the Gmail app for the selected account. Note that this might not completely disable Google Chat itself, but it will prevent it from sending you notifications. You might still be able to access Chat if you navigate to it directly. If you want to completely disable Chat, you'd likely need to do that from the Google Workspace admin console (if you're using a Google Workspace account) or explore options to remove or uninstall the Chat app if you have it installed separately.
