How do I create a new place in Google Earth Pro?

Published in Google Earth 2 mins read

To create a new place (placemark) in Google Earth Pro, follow these steps:

  1. Open Google Earth Pro.

  2. Navigate to the desired location on the Earth where you want to place your placemark. You can use the search bar, zoom in/out, or pan across the globe.

  3. Click the "Add Placemark" button in the toolbar. This button looks like a yellow pushpin. Alternatively, you can go to the "Add" menu and select "Placemark."

  4. A new placemark icon will appear at the center of your screen, along with a pop-up window labeled "Google Earth - New Placemark."

  5. Reposition the placemark. Keep the "New Placemark" window open and drag the pushpin icon to the exact location you want to mark. You can zoom and pan while the window is open.

  6. Enter the placemark's name. In the "New Placemark" window, type a name for your place in the "Name" field (e.g., "My Favorite Restaurant," "Mountain Summit").

  7. Add a description (optional). In the "Description" field, you can add more information about the place. This could include details like notes, website addresses, or anything else you want to remember about the location.

  8. Customize the placemark icon (optional). In the "New Placemark" window, click the pushpin icon next to the "Name" field. This will open a menu of different icons you can use. You can also change the icon's color and size.

  9. Adjust the altitude (optional). The "Altitude" tab allows you to specify the altitude of the placemark. This is useful for marking locations at specific elevations.

  10. Click "OK" to save your new placemark. The placemark will now appear on the map with the name you gave it. It will also be listed in the "Places" panel on the left side of the screen.

You have now successfully created a new place in Google Earth Pro! You can double-click the placemark in the "Places" panel to quickly return to that location. You can also right-click on a placemark to edit its properties, delete it, or perform other actions.
